April 2012 Poetry Contest: Caged by Makih

Caged

Leaves writhe from the tree,
Once full of life, now shrivels.
Will it persevere?

An abrupt feeling
Resuscitates me to life…
Ready to take off.

Preparations now.
Clothing. Pack. MEDICATION!
A routine or plan?

Leaves writhe from the tree,
Once full of life, now shrivels.
Will it persevere?

40 minutes to kill.
That’s all it takes to restrain…
VIOLENCE! AGGRESSION!

A blessing or curse?
A tornado of fury
To destroy all life.

Leaves writhe from the tree,
Once full of life, now shrivels.
Will it persevere?

Cretinous children
Surround for hours of pain.
A sweet break awaits.

Free to roam at ease,
Insects are trapped in their cages,
Pestering no more.

Leaves writhe from the tree,
Once full of life, now shrivels.
Will it persevere?

Packs of monkeys build.
They are primates wild and dumb
In my habitat.

They sit, act, and wait,
And when the zookeeper leaves
They go BALLISTIC!

Leaves writhe from the tree,
Once full of life, now shrivels.
Will it persevere?

Outside? Not BETTER!
There is no comprehending
The brain of the beast.

It eats, sleeps, and lives.
Safe in own world. Threat in others.
It can only fight.

Leaves writhe from the tree,
Once full of life, now shrivels.
Will it persevere?
