Teen Writers Spotlight: Rivals Meet by Breanna

Rivals Meet
Part of a Contest Shipping fan fiction
By Breanna

Author’s Note: This is a Pokémon fan fiction. It’s part of one I’ve had in my mind for a while. Basically, May is the Petalburg Governor’s eldest daughter and got captured by Pirates. She likes it on the ship and everyone treats her more like a crewmember than a prisoner. May and the Captain, Drew Hayden, fall in love but the part I wrote a little of is where May’s family and a family friend, Brendan, come to rescue May. I made Gary and Paul be Drew’s younger brothers. Leaf and Dawn are May’s younger sisters in this fan fiction and of course Max is her little brother. May, Drew, Misty and Ash are 17, Leaf and Gary are 15, Dawn and Paul are 13. Max is five and Brendan is 19 in this fan fiction. So far, this fan fiction does not have a name, so I just decided on a chapter titles.

Disclaimer: I do NOT own Pokémon

May stood next to Drew as she listened to Harley talk. She sighed. It had been two weeks since she had been captured and her family had come to rescue her. But the truth was, she didn’t want to leave. Here was where she could be herself unlike back home where she had to be ladylike. And her best friend, Misty, and the boy she was in love with, Drew were here. Her Father, Norman and Brendan were on the ship she was on while her mother, Caroline was on the ship that Norman owned with May’s siblings, Leaf, Dawn and Max. She had missed them but she didn’t want to leave Drew and his brothers Gary and Paul, Misty and Ash too. Something James said pulled May out of her thoughts.

“Governor Norman, tell your family that we’re leaving you all here so they need to cross the plank,” The purple haired man said.

“No! What if they fall? Max is only five!” May said quickly. Drew took her hand and squeezed it. Knowing James might hurt his family, Norman did as told. Caroline carried Max across and next came Leaf. Dawn came last. May knew her sister was scared. Once she was sure they were safe, May turned to Drew who had commanded the ship to leave since Harley and James were already off. They exchanged a quick smile and turned to her family. In their fancy clothing they looked very out of place on the ship. May went over to them and hugged Max, Dawn, Leaf and her parents. Even thought she wasn’t wearing a dress she curtsied to Brendan. He kissed her hand.

“Thank goodness you are alright, Miss Mayabelle,” May frowned when Brendan said her real name. But quickly forced a smile.

“Brendan, how many times do I have to tell you to call me May? We are friends, are we not?” May asked. They were friends but Brendan wanted them to be more. He nodded, blushing. May laughed and turned to Drew, who was frowning. “Drew, this is Brendan, my father, my mother, Max, Dawn and Leaf, “ May introduced.

“It is nice to meet you all,” Drew said curtly. He shook hands with Norman.
“And this is drew, Gary, Paul, Ash, and Misty,” May said to her parents as Gary, Paul, Ash and Misty came forward.

“It’s nice to meet all of you,” May noticed Leaf was looking at Gary. He tried not to look back but failed.

“What are we going to do for sleeping arrangements?” Misty asked.

“Hmm…if you can find somewhere else to sleep, Dawn, Leaf and Mom can stay in our room and Brendan, Max and Dad in the one next door,” May said.

“You can stay with me!” Ash said. Misty agreed.

“Maybe you two will admit your feelings now,” May said.

“I do not like Ash in that way!” Misty said.

“Just like Drew and I are not in love,” May said.

“Then they do not like each other,” Brendan said.

“Um, yes they do.”

“Do you mean you love him?” Brendan glared at Drew.

“Yes I do,” May smiled at Drew. Norman opened his mouth but Leaf was quicker.

“Oh, tell me everything, May!” Leaf said, Caroline nodded.

“Me too!” Dawn said. May laughed, glad to be with her sisters. Norman frowned.

“I’ll get some clothes for you, so not to get your clothes dirty,” Misty said to May’s family. Brendan’s clothes were simpler than what May was used to seeing him in. Norman thought about it and then nodded. May turned to Drew to hug him before leaving the deck with Misty, her family, and Brendan. Once she was in his arms, Drew spoke in May’s ear.

“When you get a chance we need to talk with the others,” Drew said quickly. They pulled away and she gave a slight nod. The other’s meant Paul, Gary, Misty and Ash. May knew the topic would be her family. What would happen to them? May turned away and Max lifted his arms up. May picked up the small boy and carried him as she left with Misty, Ash, her family and Brendan.
