Keepin' it Real with Realistic Fiction

Dragons, Vampires and Magic (oh my) are fun, but here are a few more (girly) realistic fiction titles:

First up is Suite Scarlett by Maureen Johnson. On her 15th birthday Scarlett is given a cell phone and a room in the hotel her family lives in to take care of. She also gets more responsibly, an interesting guest in her room, and of course her older brother's new acting buddy, who might like her as much as she likes him. Scarlett takes what life gives her with humor and fabulousness.

Have you ever felt that no matter what you do it just doesn't live up to other people's expectations for you? Then try Good Enough by Paula Yoo. Patti's life revolves around making her parents happy. This means getting at least a 2300 on her SATs so that she can get into "HarvardPrincetonYale", and being the best violinist in all state orchestra again. With distractions such as rock and roll and "Cute Trumpet Boy" will Patti be good enough?

Don't let the cover of Sara Zarr's Sweethearts fool you. This is a bittersweet story of old friends, and how the past can affect the present. Jenna used to be called Jennifer. She used to have one friend Cameron, but he left and now she has a very different life. Once she was teased and bulled at school, she now has good friends and a boy friend. When Cameron comes back, Jenna has to look back at what happened to see how she can move forward.

Finally, there is Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway. When Audrey breaks up with Evan, she hopes that she can move on with her life. Evan uses this break up to write a hit song. Now everyone wants to know who Audrey is, and Audrey is not sure what to do with her new fame. This is laugh out loud, and share with your friends funny!

I'll see you @ the library,
Katie (Who should read a book about a boy, war or without a pink cover.)

P.S. (from Megan, who also should probably read a boy book) Katie promises to post about some boy books soon, because I happen to know for a fact that she's read a bunch that are made of awesome! Not that you can't read these books if you are a boy, because you can- ask Katie!
