Book Review: The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin by Josh Berk

Will Halpin is going to start a new school. Sure it's tough being the new kid in high school, but being the new kid who just happens to be deaf? That makes things a bit harder.

Will shares his innermost thoughts with us as he observes a "normal" high school. Far from the special school for deaf students where teachers had their lectures close captioned for students, and every one was fluent in sign language, Will can't follow class if the teacher turns to the chalk board. Of course, he's immediately seen as a weird outcast, because he doesn't talk.

When rich, popular, football star Pat is found dead on a class trip to a coal mine. The only kids brave enough to try and solve this mystery are Will and his equally unpopular friend, Devon Smiles.
Part Hardy Boy's mystery, part ghost story and part high school comedy, The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin will have you laughing, thinking and wondering, "Who killed Pat?". Super sleuths will get a kick out of the humor in this one, and fans of other high school boy books, like Carter Finally Gets It and Swim the Fly will find a lot to like here!
