Book Review: Sorta Like a Rock Star by Matthew Quick

Amber Appleton lives to spread joy. She is the only female member of "the five", leader of the Korean Diva's for Christ (who she teaches English through Motown music) and the reigning champion in the Methodist Retirement Home's battle between Hope and Pessimism. No matter what life throws at her, she makes the best of every situation.

Living on the school bus her mom drives may not be easy, but it beats living with her mom's ex-boyfriend. Plus she's got her dog, Bobby Big Boy or Thrice-B to keep her company (and warm). Things may not be perfect, and Amber wants make her life better by becoming a lawyer like Donna, her friend Ricky's mom.

Of course things can not always be sunny for Amber. When a life altering tragedy strikes, the princess of hope is down for the count. It seems like nothing will brighten Amber's mood, or get her out of her depression.

Amber is the kind of girl you want on your side; she'll cheer you on no matter what, and you will be cheering her on as well. Amber is supported by some of the most interesting characters you'll ever read about, including the rest of the five, Father Chee, the residents of the nursing home, a Vietnam vet and Donna.

Sorta Like A Rockstar will help you see the best in people, just make sure you have your box of Kleenex toward the end of the book!

I'll see you @ the library!
