Book Review: Famous by Todd Strasser

Jamie is an aspiring celebrity photographer who has had a few lucky breaks catching famous celebrities at their less than best. Suddenly she is a paparazzi protege, complete with a write up in a major news paper. Just when her career seems to be failing, she gets a major break: to photograph super-star actress/ singer Willow Twine over her spring break. Willow is out of rehab and looking to show off her clean image, and Jamie is just the girl to capture that.

Of course things aren't always as they seem, as Jamie wakes up after a party and can't find her camera. She can't remember when she last had it, and when she does find it, there are photos on there that could really hurt Willow.

Jamie isn't sure what to do,and thinks about the moments that brought her here, from her first lucky photo, to her friend Avy wanting to be a star, and even her boyfriend who didn't always support her choice in activities. Jamie tells her story, with help from Avy, and a few other characters.

Famous is a fast ride through fame and how quickly it fades. Readers start at the (almost) end, and move quickly from past to present as Jamie (and others) put together the pieces of the story for you. Author Todd Strasser has created a real thinking book, especially for those who want to be famous.

If you've ever spent a day watching E! True Hollywood Story, or watched pop stars go from sweet every girl to a "hot mess", pick up Famous. Being famous may be something we all want, but don't forget there is a dark side to fame.

I'll see you @ the library!
