Book Review: Angel Burn by L.A. Weatherly

Angels are real.  Winged, radiant creatures that glow with pure white light and divine beauty.  Humans who encounter them are left with a sense of peace, love, and comfort - and a severe case of angel burn.  Feeding off human energy, angels' touch leaves humans drained and dying - and believing that they've experienced a true miracle of joy and peace.

Alex is an Angel Killer, one of a small, elite group of assasins that hunts down angels for the CIA. Raised by his father at a training camp deep in the New Mexico desert, he killed his first angel solo when he was twelve. When a text sends him from Aspen to Pawtucket, New York, he finds that his next target is a teenage girl - a girl who is definitely not the angel he was sent to kill, but isn't quite human either.

When Willow Fields agrees to do a psychic reading for Beth, the last thing she expects to see is an angel.  Horrified, she realizes that the angel is actually feeding off Beth's energy - but all Beth seems to feel is a sense of overwhelming love and gratitude.  An overachiever, she suddenly wants to drop out of school and join the Church of Angels.  Willow tries to tell Beth that the angel is seriously bad for her, but Beth totally freaks.  Willow doesn't know what's going on, but she knows she has to stop the angel  from hurting Beth - and anyone else.

When Willow and Alex meet, she is running from a crazed horde of Church of Angels fanatics who are trying to kill her, convinced she will hurt the angels.  He is there because he followed her - not to kill her this time (not yet, anyway), but to figure out what she is - and why the CIA wants her dead.  When he saves her life, Alex knows that both he and Willow are in serious trouble.  On the run, Alex and Willow must join forces as they desperately seek a safe haven - and realize that the angels' control runs far deeper than they could have imagined.

Angel Burn is an action-packed, adrenaline-fueled romantic thriller.  Dodging soul-sucking angels and bullets from a Mustang and a Porsche, your pulse will be pounding as Willow and Alex fight for their lives in a race across the country.  Car chases, in-flight battles, and Willow and Alex's fierce devotion to each other (after they figure out they're in love with each other, of course!) and an epic final showdown make sure you won't want to put this one down until you've turned the last page.  For fans of Maximum Ride and The Mortal Instruments series, check out this fun summer read that has a whole new spin on angels!
