Book Review: Spoiled by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan

Brooke Berlin is ready to be presented to the world. Her father shields her from the paparazzi, but she wants the attention and for her name to be all over the papers. She wants to follow in his footsteps and be an actress. To help thrust her into the spotlight is her sweet 16 party. It will be the party of the year, and no new sister will ruin this moment for her.

Molly Dix is moving to Los Angeles from Indiana to live with her mega movie star dad and her half sister. Before her mom passed away, she thought her dad was a dead army captain. Not only is her father alive he's the star of such movies of Diaper Andy and Rad Man, and she has half sister who is not 100% supportive of her existence in the first place. It's not enough that she has to start a new school, but with an unresponsive boyfriend back in Indiana and no one rushing to be her friend in L.A., it might be time to think of other options.

Of course, Molly does not have other options, so stay in L.A. it is. With Brick forcing the girls to share a room and a car, and the school making Molly work on Brooke's production of My Fair Lady the girls have a lot of time to spend together, and maybe start acting more like sisters.

Spoiled is one of those fun summer reads that might actually be good for you. First time authors Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan give us plenty of name brand details and movie shout outs to make the book fun, as well as a good story and fun characters.

Molly is a fun "every girl" who makes mistakes, falls in with the wrong crowd, but at the end of the day just wants to fit in somewhere. Brooke may spend more on clothes in an afternoon than some of us will spend in a year, but there is more to her than a perfect exterior. Brick Berlin may be the bond that brings these two together, but he's not always there for either girl.

This book is for anyone who has ever wondered "what if I were suddenly famous or rich" or looked at the pages of Vogue wishing they could afford designer duds and "it" handbags. If you enjoyed Sonya Sones' One of those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies or Where I Belong by Gwendolyn Hesley will enjoy the L.A. scene, awesome clothes and a good story about two girls who couldn't be more different, sharing a father, and now a life.

I'll see you @ the library!
