Book Review: Cybele's Secret by Juliet Marillier

I think this is one of my favs since I detoxed from the Twilight Saga last weekend, I mean, ahem, in August. If the gorgeous cover doesn't suck you in right away, read on!

Bookworm Paula, Jena and Tati's little sis from Wildwood Dancing (which you don't have to read before diving into Cybele, but I would highly recommend it as well!), has convinced her father to let her go along with him to Istanbul as his business assistant. There are rumors swirling that Cybele's Gift, an ancient artifact whose inscription is, according to legend, supposed to bring the owner good luck and fortune, and Paula's papa is on a quest to procure the item for a wealthy collector.

Paula and her father arrive in Istanbul to find that their trading partner has been mysteriously murdered, the city authorities want the artifact destroyed, and a dashing Portugese pirate who has captured Paula's eye is also after Cybele's Gift. After several mysterious Sightings of her sister Tati (who vanished, with her true love Sorrow, into the Other Kingdom in Wildwood) lead her to discover two ancient manuscripts about Cybele, Paula is convinced that she is being set a path of magical clues that will lead her to Cybele's Gift. Together with her bodyguard, the tall, handsome, intense Stoyan, Paula sets out on a quest that will test her to the limits of courage, bravery, balance, and love.

This is fab fantasy that really delivers it all- magic, a life-or-death quest, love, pirates, sandalwood-scented romance, scimitars and swords, and an Indiana Jones-style spunky heroine. Check out Cybele's Secret @ the library!
