Book Review: Possibilities of Sainthood by Donna Freitas

Antonia Lucia Labella wants two things more than anything. For starters, she wants her first real kiss, and preferably with Andy Rotellini, who probably doesn't even know she's alive. Second, she wants to be a saint, more specifically the first living saint. She keeps a journal of the saints, prays to them whenever the appropriate occasion arises. Plus, there are her monthly letters (and frequent e-mails) to the Vatican regarding her suggestions for things that might need a saint, of course Antonia is the perfect candidate for all of her suggestions.

Antonia isn't out there alone though. She has her best friend Maria, who she tells just about everything to. Then there is Michael, a boy she is just friends with, even if he is always around at the worst possible moments. Too bad her cousin Veronica is always in the way as well, and of course her mother doesn't remember what it is like to be 15 (almost 16), and could care less if Antonia ever has a social life.

If you like books about real kids dealing with realistic problems, Antonia is your girl. She is smart, funny and just wants to be normal. She tells her story honestly and you feel for her, whether it's trying to convince her mom that her uniform skirt isn't too short, or trying to figure out why Michael is always around.

I'll see you @ the library
