Book Review: Sisters Red by Jackson Pierce

Scarlett March is a hunter. She lives and breathes to exterminate the Fenris - werewolves - that stalk the night, killing girls. Ever since one murdered her grandmother and took her eye when she was a little girl, Scarlett has spent every moment training, fighting, and hunting the Fenris. The only thing more important to her than the hunt is her little sister, Rosie.

Rosie March knows that she and her sister Scarlett are two pieces of the same heart and the same soul. Still, she's frustrated that overprotective Scarlett won't let her hunt the Fenris solo. She also wishes that Scarlett would understand she wants just a little bit of a life outside of the hunt.

And then two things happen. Childhood friend Silas returns after a year away. He and Scarlett were partners, a lethal team, protecting little Rosie and the world together. Except Rosie isn't so little anymore, and Silas definately notices that she's no longer a child. And the Fenris begin to gather, their attacks increasing in frequency and violence, and, even more terrifying, their usually chaotic rampages seem to be organized and purposeful. Despite Scarlett's anger with Silas for abandoning them, and her reluctance to allow Rosie to hunt, the three must work together to discover why the Fenris are gaining strength.

When one of the dying Fenris reveals that they are gathering to seek a new Potential, a werewolf-to-be, Scarlett knows that they must do everything in their power to stop the Fenris from discovering and turning the Potential. But will Silas and Rosie's growing love for each other tear the three apart just when they need each other the most?

A spine-chilling twist on the tale of Little Red Riding Hood, Sisters Red is an action-packed modern story of howling, bloodthirsty wolves that stalk young girls in dark alleys. Hatchet-throwing, fierce, scarred Scarlett and knife-wielding, beautiful, strong Rosie are heroines you'll be cheering out loud for as they fight their way through packs of terrifying werewolves with very large eyes, very big eyes, and very, very sharp teeth. This one's for fans of gothic horror, Buffy, Suzanne Collins and Kristin Cashore, so don't miss it @ the library!
