Book Review: Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Callum rescued Bryn from the Rabid werewolf that killed her parents when she was four. He saved her life and Marked her, making Bryn Pack, forcing the rest of the wolves to accept a human girl as one of their own and connecting Bryn, body, mind and soul, to the Stone Creek wolf pack. Bryn isn't a wolf, she can't shift, but everything else about her is Pack.

The thing is, Bryn's not so big on the whole Alpha male dominance thing. Or the part where the Pack is connected to her thoughts and emotions. She's her own girl, a fighter, fierce and independent, and she refuses to allow anyone to own her - not even Callum, Stone Creek alpha, her savior and the closest thing to a father she's got. So she taught herself how to block her pack bond, even though they're always there at the edges of her mind. She obeys - when she wants to. Which is pretty much never.

It's when she disobeying Callum in a pretty serious way that she finds Chase, a volatile new were caged behind reinforced bars in Callum's basement. With three words, he changes Bryn's world - I got bit. Humans don't survive werewolf attacks. But Chase was human - and not only did he live, he was Changed.

Bryn knows she has to see Chase again. They're connected, somehow the same, and she's got to figure it out. She'll do anything - even if it means submitting to Callum and opening up her bond to the wolf pack. But is Bryn ready for the world-shattering truth and consequences?

I'm adding Bryn to my team of Fictional Chicks I Want On My Side When The Zombie Apocalypse Comes, right alongside Katniss, Fire, Katsa, Buffy, and Frankie Landeau-Banks! This girl is one tough little fighter, strong enough to take on werewolves and come up swinging. She knows what she wants and she doesn't hesitate to go after it, no matter how many alpha male werewolves are standing in the way. I love the authenticity of the pack dynamics here too - Callum and the Stone Creek weres are just so... wolfy. Raised By Wolves is not to be missed @ the library!
