Book Review: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Lola Nolan is a lot of things, but subtle isn't one. She is an aspiring costume designer who sees every day as an opportunity to dress up. Wigs, false eyelashes and sparkle are accessories that help her with her everyday look, and one of her biggest dreams is walking into the Winter Formal in full on Marie Antoinette dress.

On top of her fashion aspirations, Lola lives with her two dads, has a part time job at a movie theater, goes to school and has an awesome boyfriend Max, who just happens to be a bit older than she is. Life would be perfect if her dad's would just accept him, and if the Bell twins stay away.

First off there is beautiful Calliope Bell, champion figure skater who dominated Bell family life when she had to go off to competitions. Then there is Cricket, the inventor, who two years ago broke Lola's heart. Everything is just fine in Lola's world, until these two come back to town.

The Bell twins' appearance makes life turn truly dramatic for Lola. Just as she starts becoming friends with Cricket, things with Max start going a bit bad. Then her birth-mother barges back in her life, which is never easy for her. Of course, she has some great friends to help her figure stuff out, like Lindsey her detective friend and her supervisor Anna.

Full of laugh out loud moments, and a few that will bring a tear to your eye Lola and the Boy Next Door is a fun read. If you liked Anna and the French Kiss, you will enjoy this fun romance, plus here is a bit of Anna in this book! Fans of Sarah Dessen, Sara Zarr, and Meg Cabot won't want to miss this one!

I'll see you @ the library!
