Book Review: The Vigilante Poets of Selwyn Academy by Kate Hattemer

What would you do if you felt your whole education was being compromised for a reality TV show? That's what happens to Ethan and his friends when a show called For Art's Sake takes over their school, Selwyn Arts Academy, during their Junior year.

It's Luke who gets upset first, when his review of the TV show is repeatedly taken out of the school news letter. Soon Ethan, Elizabeth and Jackson are on board to publish the Contracantos, an offshoot of Ezra Pound's Cantos which they are studying in teacher BradLee's class. Of course the whole school wants to know just who is publishing these scathing reviews of For Art's Sake, and further more the show wants to make Luke their new star.

Friendships, family and yes school all collide when things are never what they seem. Ethan is pretty honest, but doesn't see much past the parts of life he knows. While Luke is charismatic, smart and popular, he is easy swayed by the TV show, and this makes Ethan question a lot about their friendship.Jackson and Elizabeth are awesome go to friends, who are there for Ethan no matter what, even if he can't see beyond the end of his own nose.

With a dash of romance, a bit of mystery and a lot of mischief, four teens are able to bring to light the real story behind the reality show, and you will be turning pages to find out why. Readers who enjoy books by Jordan Sonnenblick and Bret Halpin will enjoy the Vigilante Poets of Selwyn Academy.

I'll see you @ the library!
