Book Review: Isle of the Lost by Melissa de la Cruz

We all know the stories, right? Evil Fairy puts beautiful princess in a deep sleep because she wasn't invited to her birthday party. Evil Queen goes out to kill a princess because she is more beautiful. Wicked Vizier plots to marry the princess and over take the kingdom. Crazy Lady steals puppies to make a fur coat.

And the good guys live happily ever after...but what about those not so good guys?

This is (mostly) their story. Well, their kid's story. You see after all the fairy tales end, the bad guys all got rounded up and sent off to the Isle of the Lost, where they live in isolated squalor. There is no TV, or new anything, just junk. And there is no magic, just a dome keeping them in.

Mal is the daughter of Maleficent, and she can never quite live up to the evil her mother expects from her, not like she has a chance. In school she tries to be the baddest of the bad, and she is, but sometimes in her dreams she wonders if there is something more. Mal doesn't have friends, but there is Jay, son of Jafar who helps her steal things, and Carlos, son of Cruella De Ville, who she suckers into throwing the major party of the and of course Evie, the daughter of the Evil Queen, who may just be the key to all of Mal's issues.

But can the four work together, and not become something...good?

This is one of those fun read along books that has you going "hey that's (fill in the blank with Disney Character) from (fill in the blank Disney movie). And if you are at all excited for the Descendants movie premiering on Disney, this is a must read! And how could something by the AMAZING Melissa de la Cruz be anything but awesome.

A must read for those young at heart who still watch all those movies on the Disney channel!

I'll see you @ the library!
