Banned Books Week

Across the country, libraries are celebrating Banned Books Week. This is a week to look at books that have been challenged, removed or worse across the country and around the world.

Why is this important? For starters, check out some of the awesome books you may have read that may have been challenged (Buzzfeed). Also, there are two recent cases from high schools where books are being removed from required reading lists, one involving Courtney Summer's Some Girls Are and another with The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.

Remember, reading can be a mirror or a window. A book can show you life as you live it and as you know it, however it can also show you worlds you are not familiar with or don't know. Every book has it's reader, and if you aren't comfortable reading a book, that's okay. Just because a book isn't right for you, doesn't mean nobody should read it.

I'll see you @ the library!
