Banned Book Week: September 22-28

Happy Banned Book week! Banned Books week is when we bring attention to books that for many reason, people want out of libraries and schools.

Why should teens care? A lot of these books are for you! Think people not liking the message or language in The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas, or the fact that a book like Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell might introduce you to some offensive language. Of course books like Drama by Raina Telgemeir or Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan have LGBTQIA+ content. And finally, books like Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey encourage disruptive behavior!

So pick up an old favorite or read a new book that someone has challenged, and celebrate your freedom to read what ever you are comfortable with! Remember, every book has a reader, and while one book might not be for you, there is someone out there would would relate to it! Here's a list from the American Library Association of books that have been banned or challenged over the past few years: http://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/frequentlychallengedbooks/top10

I'll see you @ the library!
